David Hood is an American musician and record producer, best known as the bassist for the legendary Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. He was born on September 21, 1943 in Sheffield, Alabama.
Hood and his fellow musicians in the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section played on countless hit records in the 1960s and 1970s, working with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and Etta James. Their distinctive sound and tight grooves helped define the Muscle Shoals sound, which became known for its soulful and funky feel.
Hood has also worked as a producer and session musician outside of the Muscle Shoals scene, contributing to recordings by artists such as Paul Simon, Willie Nelson, and The Traffic.
In addition to his work as a musician and producer, Hood is also an in-demand session musician, and has performed on numerous albums and tours with a variety of artists. He continues to play and record music to this day, and remains an influential figure in the world of rock and soul music.
